We are fundraising for legal fees to help defend schools impacted by the Resilient Schools Proposal. Collected fees for this cause will be transferred directly to Eric Maxfield, the attorney retained to represent the Better Plan BVSD coalition. Flatirons, Douglass, and Mesa is each hoping to raise $5,000 for a total expenditure of $15,000.

BVSD has proposed closing four elementary schools and displacing 1,900 students total, but essential details about logistics and educational outcomes remain unclear. This is despite seven hours of parental testimony and a six-hour BVSD board work session. With a board vote expected on September 22, this effort is about using every legal measure possible before that decision is ratified.

For families and neighbors, this is not just about one building. The proposed closures would affect local, walkable schools and alter the fabric of the communities where they live. Parents are trying to keep children with their friends, reduce longer commutes, make sure SAC can continue supporting school populations, and defend open enrollment students and local preschools.

How donations will help: They will go to Eric Maxfield's fees in collaboration with Birch and Douglass communities. Our move is not unilateral - we stand firmly with Douglass and Flatirons that the Resilient Schools Proposal does not offer enough logistical information.

If you are able to give or share this fundraiser, your support will help parents and neighbors take urgent legal action and stand up for schools slated to close in 2027 and guarantee the future educational outcomes of our children.
