Fund Aquarium Equipment for Salmon In the Classroom Program

Hi! As you all know I am a middle school science teacher with 30 years of experience. I'm excited to introduce you to an exciting educational initiative: the Salmon in the Classroom program. I have participated in this program for the past 4 years. This year I need your help so that I can continue creating good science citizens.

What is this program you ask? It is coordinated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), allows students from third through twelfth grade to raise Chinook salmon from fertilized eggs in the fall to young fish ready for release in the spring. Throughout the school year, students engage in hands-on learning about the salmon life cycle, aquatic ecosystems, and environmental stewardship.

While the DNR provides the salmon eggs and educational resources, participating classrooms are responsible for setting up and maintaining the necessary aquarium equipment.

The equipment needed: 75 gallon aquarium $250 approx.
Metal Stand $150 approx.
In-Line Aquarium Chiller $600
Canister Filter $370
API FreshWater Testing Kit $36
Air Pump $15
Sponge Filters $20
100 Foot No spill Sypon $135
Prime Water Conditioner $51
Aquarium net $7
Aquarium lid $70
Auto feeder $32
Miscellaneous Chemicals $100
Overage for Taxes and any missing items

To bring this enriching experience to my students, I'm seeking support to fund the required equipment and materials. Your contribution will not only help us set up the aquarium but also provide students with a unique opportunity to connect with Michigan's natural resources and learn about conservation in a tangible way.
By supporting this project, you're investing in the education and environmental awareness of our future generations. Together, we can inspire students to become informed and responsible stewards of our natural world.

Thank you for considering a donation to our Salmon in the Classroom project.
