Hi, I'm Daisy, a 30 year old train guard (of 11 years) from the West Midlands, I've always wanted to be a train driver but through circumstance I've not been able to do it for a career, but I have been able to drive some trains over the years, Since 2015 I've been collecting train cab components with the hopes of creating a train cab simulator, I always got so far but component availability and time got the better of me.
At the start of last year I purchased a surplus to requirement driver training simulator, from Southern Rail's Selhurst Depot, (that money got donated to charity) and with the help of my friend Dan (a Maintenance tech for the railway) spent the next 7 months getting it ready to exhibit at the Greatest Gathering railway event in Derby.
It was a big success and I was happy to be able to offer it as a wheelchair accessible simulator experience, I would really like to open the experience of driving modern trains to the general public as a train driver experience location and I've been massively grateful to the company I work for and many other railway companies who have assisted in donating parts. But like everyone, Time and money to actually help get things moving quicker are hard to come by alongside working 60h weeks.
I would really appreciate if you could help with just a £1 or £2 to help me get the process going a bit faster and make the location as accessible as possible (as some people will sadly never get the chance to experience what its like to drive a train) when I do get to open to the public (hopefully this year)
I want to make sure that a portion of any money I make (from yourself and eventually the public as it will need to be a paid for experience) gets donated to charity, because I don't feel right just taking all the money to better this endeavour.
Thank you for your time reading, and your consideration.
Daisy x
