My name is Amanda. I was born with cerebral palsy. I have had a manual – or push – wheelchair for 5 years. When in stronger health, I try to use this as opposed to my power wheelchair. Unfortunately the manual chair I have is degrading, and was not fitted for my specific needs when my insurance originally bought it. Due to the fact I now have a power wheelchair that was covered by my insurance, my insurance will no longer cover a new manual wheelchair. I had baclofen pump surgery in March of 2023 and have since been through both physical and occupational therapy, and am working to get my shoulders stronger.

A new manual wheelchair fitted to my needs, would allow me to strengthen my shoulders, and allow me more exercise. It is also my goal to enter and complete a 5k race in a manual chair with my nephew next spring. Part of this cost includes a big wheel attachment for the chair, that will allow me to maneuver rough terrain like gravel or uneven surfaces better than the small wheels on the front of the chair. I am in need of help getting this wheelchair, because my only source of income is my Social Security Disability. So I am asking for help from my friends and family so I can regain my strength and independence. Any amount you are able to give is greatly appreciated.
