Hey, I'm Lyd

For a while now I've been dreaming of creating a stable space to run my small jewellery business but also to share my craft with others through intimate and inspiring workshops.

The Backstory

The problem is that rent is so high in Barcelona and it makes access to a space a challenge for independent artisans. I began making jewellery in my living room from a upcycled table, then years later I went onto share a jewellery co-working in the city. The last few years, I knew I needed a bigger space for my work to continue evolving but I just couldn't think how to get there financially.

Recently I got kicked out of my workshop, I was accused of 'trying to steal customers' while helping a mother from Berlin book a puppet show ticket for her toddler. I understand how it looked on the camera, but she couldn't speak Catalan and I was just excited about helping her book the show because I took my sister's kiddies there and they loved it. It seems ridiculous, but that's what happened. I was devastated to lose my workbench and fellow jewellers but nor did I want to beg someone who could so easily accuse me of something like that.

Change is good

It's been a challenging seven weeks of trying to continue to keep my business afloat in a temporary space across town. The thing about change is that we resist it, tragically and whole heartedly but actually sometimes it's the universe shaking you into clarity. I see now that it's time for the next step on my journey as a jeweller. I began viewing spaces and almost immediately fell in love with a little studio in Sant Antoni.

The Dream

I want to create a workshop to manage my small jewellery business but also for people to come together and learn the ancient craft of sandcasting. It’s not going to be a traditional or formal 'school' but rather, a place to escape to and take refuge in creativity. It will be intimate, we'll sip tea, there will be roses - a house of dreams if you like. :)

Artists trying their best

I’ve already pooled together all the money I can get to pay the four month deposit, agency fee and rent and I've already got a lot of tools because I've been making jewellery for 10 years but I’m gonna need a lot more cash flow to put together a functioning workshop and learning space.

A dear artist friend told me that sometimes in life, a train comes by and you have to jump on or spend your life wondering what could have been. I'm on the train, I paid the deposit on Tuesday but now I need all the support I can get to stay there.
