I am a transman currently residing in the red state of Kentucky. I have stable housing and am not fearful of being targeted by the state... for now.
However, it is our Democratic Governor's last term and I fear what could happen after he is no longer in office.
My stable housing is not conducive to a long-term living situation. The house is small and crowded, my room is the size of a bathroom. It's in a small town that doesn't even have a grocery store.
I can drive, but I don't have my own car, and with my disabilities, I need to live somewhere I can have access to good public transportation.
I also recently received a letter from the state with new requirements for being on Medicaid, which would be hard for me to accomplish because I cannot work. That begins January of 2027, and if they do not approve my disabilities for the exemption, I will lose access to all care coverage. I rely heavily on my medications for day-to-day life and cannot lose them.
I have no savings, no money of my own, that would help me accomplish this move.
My life started out hard, having experienced sexual abuse from a very young age (which is where my disabilities come from). I just want a chance at a little bit of happiness that I've never been able to truly experience, in a place where there's more opportunities for care and community.
My goal is to raise $3,000, at minimum, to help pay for housing once I get out to Portland. I would like a little more than that for some cushion, but I will appreciate any help that I am given.
Thank you for reading.
