“One Big Hug” - A WashU Student Film:

“Birthdays are supposed to be fun, but for young Lucy, it’s just another reason for her mom and dad to fight. That night, as her parents’ relationship nears its breaking point, Lucy is mystically transported to the golden days of her parents’ young marriage. There, she observes their love and learns what she must do to restore their affection.”

As part of my film studies, I was challenged to create a short film that is meaningful to me. As a psychology and film double major, I’ve always been passionate about exploring the ways our childhood experiences shape us. This original story holds a tender place in my heart, and I know it will mean so much to its audience as well.

I want to create a film that not only tells a compelling story, but also helps people face the trauma they experienced in their own childhoods, recognize it, and begin to find healing. The heart of this project is about realizing the effects of the past so you can move forward, and I believe Lucy’s journey will resonate with anyone who has ever wished for a second chance to understand their family.

To bring this vision to life, I need support from people who believe in the power of storytelling and healing. The funds raised will go directly toward securing props, costumes, and accommodations for my dedicated cast and crew. This is a relatively bare-bones production, but every contribution, no matter the size, will help make this film possible and support amateur filmmaking in St. Louis.

Everyone is invited to its public screening at WashU’s Brown Hall at the end of the Spring semester. Check back on this page later for specific dates/times.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping create something that could mean so much to so many.
