Hello, we are teachers at GBK in Hayward. We teach 4-5th grade in a low-funded district within a low-income community. We are fundraising for over 50 students (2 classes) to be able to afford a fun and educational STEM field trip at the California Academy of Sciences. Half of the students attending this trip are part of a bilingual class where they are strengthening their English speaking skills. GBK is a title one school and has no funds for field trips. Last year we weren't able to provide field trips due to low district budgets and are hoping to have our current students experience an educational fun trip this year! Many of our students have never traveled outside of Hayward so this would be an exciting experience for them. San Francisco is very well known for STEM, this museum specifically has many exhibits, that include a rainforest, animals, an aquarium, a planetarium, a natural history museum plus much, much more! For many of these students, this might be the one chance they get to experience this and we are hoping to provide that without a cost to them. To be able to provide this trip for our students we need as much support as we can get. This experience is very important for all our students due to many teaching standards aligning with the California Academy of Science’s mission of providing a powerful voice for biodiversity research and exploration, environmental education, and sustainability across the globe.
Admission to California Academy of Sciences tickets = $1,005
2 HUSD Buses cost = $ 1,514
Total cost of $2,519
Many of our students have never been on a field trip. Field trips are important to students because it helps them find enjoyment in education. It opens students up to new opportunities and experiences they might not have otherwise. Please help fund our field trip!
Thank you,
Mrs. Enriquez
