bleeding thunder: a zine exploring genderqueer menstruation is a project that is borne out of the refusal to be in isolation anymore. it is too often that queer people menstruate in secret because not only are we navigating shame and social conditioning about menstruation, we are also navigating the cis-hetero patriarchy and how it equates menstruation to womanhood.
when we first embarked on this project, we didn’t know what to expect. after putting out a call for submissions to our communities, we were amazed by the flood of submissions that came pouring in. trans and genderqueer people from around the world submitted poems and visual art expressing their experiences with menstruation, often sharing how validating it was to do so and moving us to tears with their stories. with the creation of this zine, we are building a platform for trans and genderqueer people to tell their stories about menstruation and for these stories to be celebrated and honored.
we are raising $2500 to pay our artists because we believe they deserve compensation for their creative and emotional labor and to cover our production costs.
WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO ::
--> PAY OUR ARTISTS & ORGANIZERS, because we believe they deserve compensation!
--> produce a handful of hard copies of the zine to distribute to contributors
--> 10% will go towards our amazing partner Youth Passageways, with whose support we have been able to design and structure a zine with this many submissions
