Help Us Build a Real Slalom Course at Seven Islands
At Seven Islands, a small group of paddlers came together to create a DIY slalom course. It wasn’t fancy, but it is close to town, brought people together on the water and gave paddlers a new way to enjoy a section of river that they may not have in the past.
Now, the park has given us the green light to give the channel a facelift. With your help, we’ll replace our makeshift setup with a durable 10–15 gate course that’s properly anchored and thoughtfully laid out for skill-building and fun.
This upgrade will mean:
- Stronger, safer materials that can properly handle the river’s current fluctuation and weather impacts
- Better gate positioning for a smoother, more enjoyable flow and maximization of the channel's natural features.
- Accessible practice space for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike
- A lasting resource for the local paddling community that does not currently exist in the greater Knoxville region.
We're looking to secure $4,000. Below is the cost breakdown for the project:
- River Left Cable - 500ft. - $512
- River Right Cable - 500ft. - $512
- Cross Channel Cable. - 1000ft. - $1024
- 9 Tree savers -$675.00
- 6 Turnbuckles - $108.00
- Roughly $80/gate.
We’ve already done the hardest part: securing permission from the park. Now we need the funds for poles, cables, anchors, and hardware to make it happen.
Whether you chip in the cost of a single pole or single-handedly fund the whole damn thing, your support will directly turn our grassroots dream into a permanent fixture on the water.
Let’s give Seven Islands the slalom course it deserves—one we can enjoy, and share for years to come.
