"Why: Girls forced in marriage are at risk of contracting HIV, experiencing intimate partner violence, facing hunger issues and lack access to education, creating a lasting cycle of poverty for the girls and their children. Economically empowering the girls will help restore their dignity and hope, leading to happy and fulfilling lives.
How: We are raising funds to help 100 girls, including Forget and Eunice (in the video), who are forced in to marriage before they reached 18 years in Zimbabwe. Already equipped with 2 hectares of farming land, the young girls lack the means to make it productive and transform their lives. The funds will support them to form cooperatives and start farming projects (poultry, vegetable farming, goat rearing) that will lead to earning a decent income. Equipped with the necessary skills through training and providing market linkages, the girls will be able to make the land productive and ultimately be able to alleviate their poverty, and invest in their health care and education, increasing their life choices and options. Earning an income will empower the girls to become assertive, active citizens and lead purposeful and happy lives.
A gift of $20: buys vegetable seeds for 2 acres
A gift of $30: buys 1 goat
A gift of $100 buys $3 goats and vegetable seeds for 1 acre
A gift of 200: buys a water pump, vegetable seeds
A gift of $500: buys 100 day old chicks, feeds, vaccinations for a poultry project
With 100 girls counting on us, no donation is too little. Your gift will put power and self sufficiency in the hands of the girls like Forget and Eunice
