Dear known and unknown friends,
Niki is a 12 years old boy from Bulgaria, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor (anaplastic ependymoma) back in September 2012. Since then Niki has been through 7 major brain surgeries, 4 irradiations and various chemotherapy regimens in Europe. Even though, the tumor kept on relapsing and in October 2016 doctors informed the family that there aren't any further treatment options and that Niki has weeks or eventually a few months more to live.
Instead of giving up, the family thought that Lord might have a different plan for the brave and faithful Niki and right before Christmas flew over the Atlantic to the States in search for a life-saving treatment. After several disappointments, finally the sun rose high and in January 2017 Niki was enrolled in a 1-year clinical trial at The Children's Hospital of Georgia in Augusta, which combines experimental immunotherapy drug with chemo- and radiotherapy, leaving the neurosurgical option open.
Currently Niki is in his 8th cycle of treatment and the doctors' care for him has been magnificent However, as a non-US citizen, Niki doesn't have insurance and is not elligible for Medicaid, therefore the family has to pay for all hospital procedures by themselves. And on August 21st a tumor removal surgery, with expected cost of approx. 40,000 $, was performed. The goal of this campaign is to cover the surgery price and provide for Niki's forthcoming treatment.
