This fundraiser is for the full time care needs of our mom, Christina. In 2017, at the age of 65, Christina started to show some early signs of dementia. At this point basic things were affected such as short term and long term memory recall and some minor confusion. In 2019, as the disease progressed she was officially diagnosed with having the behavioral variant of Frontotemporal Dementia, https://www.theaftd.org/what-is-ftd/behavioral-variant-ftd-bvftd/. We continued to care for our mom at home until early 2022, when it was recommended by professionals to seek out a full time memory care facility. For her safety we found her a facility quickly that offers great care while at the same time being less expensive than a lot of the other facilities. Sadly these expenses came at poor timing. Before these events our dad had to retire early from his job because in 2014 he was diagnosed with fungal meningitis and had to undergo life-saving brain surgery. During this time most of their savings were exhausted so they had little to no reserves left for the care Christina now desperately needs.
