Full Dental Implant Needed

Donation protected
Hello, my husband Charles and I, Pamela Lang, are asking for help in our journey to his full dental implant surgery that is needed. Charles has been experiencing  the loss of his teeth over the last few years as a side effect from his bone marrow transplant and  cancer recovery. This procedure will change his life and give him back his simple daily task of eating. Our full journey to this point is below - thank you for your time and your hearts of giving.

Today we stand at a crossroad; asking for your help. Having underwent a year of cancer treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Hodgkins Lymphoma, my husband, Charles is experiencing some of the intense side effects of this attack on his body - the loss of his teeth and inability to eat normally without a full dental implant surgery.

16 years ago, my husband and my oldest son, Joshua were both diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma within the same 24 hours. You know the feeling when you get a pit in your stomach? It sweeps over you like a tidal wave! One word says it all - CANCER. With our hands clasped tightly, tears flowing, we lifted our voices together and cried out, “God, have Mercy!”

With the help of many doctors and nurses, they soon began treatment. Father and son would take this journey together over the next 12 months. After 12 treatments, Joshua’s cancer went into remission, however, it became evident that Charles would need to go on to the next level of treatment: a bone marrow transplant at OHSU in Portland.

Using his own stem cells they would rescue him. Some don’t survive BMT’s or have a long life expectancy after, but he did; he is a survivor. He was in the hospital 25 days after the transplant. We remained in Portland for 2 more weeks for follow-up appointments and I was his caregiver. If you ask him now what helped him survive, he will tell you it was all of the love that surrounded him.

The long road of healing and recovering from his cancer treatment was the next big challenge ahead and we are being faced with it head on today. While the bone marrow transplant saved his life, Charles is now experiencing the loss of his teeth. The surgery and year of chemo did a number on his body and I want to help him get the simple daily task of eating back into his life.

He currently has no working molars and eating has become increasingly more difficult through the years. His front teeth have been doing all the work and now they are beginning to crack, chip and fail. After seeing two specialists, we have been told that full a mouth dental implant is his best solution. While there is a solution, dental insurance does not cover this surgery and the surgery is very expensive. We are not financially able to afford the implant for Charles.

With the inability to eat properly, Charles has faced other health issues with digestion and swallowing that are effecting his overall wellness and happiness. The full implant surgery will be another long road ahead of surgery and healing, but it will help so much in bringing an end to this trauma in this important daily task of his life while he manages his other long lasting side effects from treatment.

On March 23rd, Charles turns 62 and what a blessing this is! We as a family are asking for your help. We have set up this fund to help him recover what has been lost. I cannot begin to thank each and every one of you who have stood with our family over the years. We appreciate your prayers and for what ever you feel led to give; every little bit helps.

The last 17 years have been nothing shy of a true blessing. With God close at our side, the gift of his life is truly a gift. God gave him his life back and we are forever grateful. Charles has been able to witness the birth of our first 2 grandchildren, Zephaniah + Silas (Janice + Ryan’s boys), Joshua’s marriage to Sarah (Pierce) and this birth of 2 more grandchildren; Violet + Josiah, Jonathan’s marriage to Rachel (Harper) and the birth of 2 more grandchildren; Bjorn + Ander, and his 2 sons, Gabriel + Charles Jr. following in his carpentry footsteps and all that he can pass on and teach each of them.

We all have crossroads. They may be different. Some come early in our lives, some later, but one thing remains the same: we have a choice. Will we choose hope or hopelessness? God is our hope. He is there in time of trouble and in the good. We are ready to begin this next step in my husbands healing. Thank you all, walk in hope with us and God bless.
