A brick wall. That's what it felt like.
My wife, Catherine and I were on an upward trajectory with our business. Clients were flowing. Our marketing was working. Partnerships were being solidified. Speaking opportunities were being presented to us. It was everything we had worked for.
And then this.
It was the end of February 2020. I began to get a limp in my right leg. I didn't think much of of it, because, let's face it, we all get aches and pains every now and then. But when it didn't subside after about a week, my doctor sent me for tests.
First they thought it was a pinched nerve in my back. Then when the symptoms expanded to my right arm, they thought possibly a stroke. They were wrong.
IT IS A BRAIN TUMOR. And not just any brain tumor. It is a high grade glioblastoma centered around the motor functions of my brain.
The way it was explained to me was that it is not in a nice neat encapsulated tumor. Think of it as butter melting into bread. Surgery is not possible. It is going to be a long fight, but make no mistake, I WILL BEAT THIS!!!
Here's the financial reality. It is going to be a long, expensive road. While I am getting treatment, I am unable to work. As it is I am writing this without the use of the right side of my body. And then there is my emotional state and my mental capacity, both of which are understandably extremely fragile.
And then there is Catherine. If you know us, you know that we are 100% partners in everything we do. Now I am going to depend her more than anyone has a right to. She is going through this just as much as I am. That means all the things that takes to run our business has to get put on hold until we get through this. AND YES WE WILL GET THROUGH IT!
The additional stress of getting bills paid, wondering when insurance is going to run out, and the possibility of having pick up and leave
home to get into a clinical trial, does not make for a positive healing environment.
I have been asked to dig deep to find what soul's purpose is. I think I've always known but never verbalized it. So here it is-
To put a smile on the face of everyone I meet. And hopefully make you laugh.
I ask that when you think of me, and you remember that joke I told you you, you will give generously. I love you all.
