Kia Ora whanau,
I’ve recently returned to New Zealand to care for my terminally ill mother and have since found myself in a difficult spot trying to build a house without a budget.
To give a bit of context, my mother is a trauma survivor who has been diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder. She has been in mental health care for the last ten years and has now transitioned into community living.
All was well until she received news of her cancer spreading and putting liquid on her lungs.
She has undergone surgery to help alleviate the symptoms and is choosing a holistic route for healing.
The doctors have given her months to live.
She is determined to continue living and wishes to reside in the north.
She has a run down property to build on in Ngawha springs. A small two street village
about 3.5 hours from Auckland.
She purchased the house on the benefit about 13 years ago and the property has become derelict.
In her mental health break she began a DIY disaster and there was no maintenance completed for 10 years as the place was a location of trauma for the family.
The property has 17K owing on the mortgage and has not increased in value due to the condition.
She also has a 22K caveat for legal fees preventing her from selling the house.
It is her wish to turn the property into a place for the family to gather for holidays and be together and make memories.
We have decided to call it ‘Nans place’ as she is soon to be a grandmother for my sister and the property co incidentally, once belonged to my great great grandmother.
My intention is to return the place to a liveable state for her in the time she has left and to make it suitable for family camping trips.
We need help paying for construction and clearing the caveat.
Internal work we will be replacing the walls, installing a bathroom and kitchen and lounge as well as a communal shower space for camping trips.
Externally we will be installing a deck and outdoor dining space.
Pergolas for shade and plants.
Water tanks and irrigation as well as gas Califonts.
And setting up a new driveway and camping spaces.
I’ve sourced as many free materials and favours as possible, begun to clear and demolish with friends and family on the weekends and just need some help getting across the line with some foundation/finishing materials and some manpower.
Any donations would contribute to realising my mothers dying wish and bringing our family together in this testing time.
