Hello, friends.
We are sadly writing on behalf of our good friend Mo Samb, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer a bit over a year ago. While he had been receiving treatment at Methodist Hospital in Park Slope for that, unfortunately, he's taken a turn for the worse and now has terminal brain cancer.
Mo has been in hospice since Fri, Aug 30, 2024, and is resting comfortably at Calvary Hospital in Sunset Park. But, it greatly pains us to share that according to all doctors, he is near the end of his life.
Mo has told us he'd like to be buried with his mother, Fatiha, who passed in 2022, and to follow traditional Muslim burial practices, so your donation of any amount will help to fulfill his wishes.
We are working through those arrangements and will post updates here.
While he's still with us, everyone is welcome to visit him at Calvary Hospital at NYU Langone on 55th St and 2nd Ave in Sunset Park - there are no visitor number or time limits, you can be here 24/7 and he enjoys short visits from his friends and community.
Your support is greatly appreciated in any amount you can give.
To be transparent, here are the details on where funds will go to honor Mo as he wishes. Any leftover money will be donated to a worthy nonprofit, Muslim Free Burial Association, right here in Brooklyn, which provides a Muslim burial for those who can't provide for themselves:
- Traditional Muslim preparation of Mo's body
- Burial with his mother, Fatiha
- Transportation to cemetery
- Filing of all required legal documentation
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We know Mo appreciates you, too.
Please spread the word that you can say goodbye to Mo in person at Calvary Hospital and also to help us reach our fundraising goal.
With love and gratitude,
Em, Stephanie, Sean and Debra
PS - If you want to get info on prep for visiting Mo and what to expect, or what to bring him that he enjoys, please reach out to any of us, or post here and we'll get in touch with you. Thanks.
