Fulfilling Bob & Marlene's Last Wishes

My name is Kourtney Black. These pictures are of my maternal grandparents, Bob & Marlene Black. I will start with a little about them first. They have been married 65 years, & been together 68 years. They had one daughter, who had me. When their daughter put me up for adoption, they stepped up and declined any help, even declining financial help. They chose me. So 38 years later I still choose them. I’ve never had another mother or father. My father worked for the Marion Power Shovel, as a Draftsman, before we had CAD. My mom was a stay at home mom with me. In her earlier years she was a cashier at one point. Mom always took care of everyone, she was the family chauffeur as she liked to joke. Mom is now actively dying and doesn’t have but days left.

They have been in Marion Post Acute for almost the last 10 years together, in the same room. Mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s about 20 years ago. I took care of her for those 10 years in their home.

Dad had made pre-arrangements with Boyd’s funeral home in Marion, OH. Before the nursing home had changed hands the previous 3 times, they were paying into an account at Boyd’s. When the nursing home changed hands, the payments were stopped and no one was notified. They only have $2k per person. Their life insurance was cancelled when they entered the nursing home. I am now the only one to take care of the cost of their funerals. I don’t expect dad to make it but a week after mom. It’s just like the movie the notebook really. So I am humbly coming to the public to try to fulfill my father’s wishes. This amount will pay for them both, following my father’s wishes. I will update as I can. Thank you!
