My name is Tabitha Powell, and I'm a dedicated teacher with ten years of experience half of those in Chesapeake Public Schools, Virginia. Every day, I strive to bring meaningful, real-world lessons to my students.
Our small but dedicated Women's Studies elective class—just ten incredible students—is preparing for an essential, once-in-a-lifetime field trip to the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond.
This isn't just a museum visit. Our focus is on the often-untold stories of the roles women played during the Holocaust, connecting their sacrifices and resilience to our modern understanding of women's history and human rights. This will be a profound day of learning that will shape their perspectives for years to come.
The Great News: The museum has generously funded our bus transportation and admission! The core educational experience is completely covered.
The Urgent Need: My initial plan was to cover the simple cost of feeding the students myself—a small breakfast, lunch, and snacks to keep them focused for the entire day of travel and deep learning. However, with the current government shutdown and my husband being an active duty service member, my family's immediate financial security is strained. I have to put my own family's needs first, which means I can no longer cover the $210 needed for student meals.
We don't want any student to be distracted by an empty stomach or worry about bringing money out of pocket for food on this long, important day.
Our Goal: $210 for a Day of Sustained Learning
Donors like to know exactly where their money is going. Your donation is a direct investment in the student experience:
$40 covers a nourishing breakfast and water for all 10 students.
$120 covers a full lunch for all 10 students.
$40 covers snacks and drinks for the bus ride home.
$10 covers platform processing fees.
A donation of just $21 covers the entire day of meals for one student.
Will you be the person who helps us complete this experience?
