Fueling a Late-Blooming Film Career

Donation protected
I was that woman who put her family before herself. I turned down career opportunities in exchange for a domestic life filled with the cares of my husband and children. I can honestly says that I have had to process some regrets but am content with those choices.

When I found film and television back in 2006, it was like a light that was all my own turned on! I coined the phrase "creative chaos" to explain to my husband my new facination but I wasn't ready to make the plunge. I was scared. Scared that my voice wouldn't be heard. Scared that I didn't have industry connections. Mostly, I didn't know if anyone would like what I created.

It wasn't until 2019 that I decided to get off the sidelines and pursue a professioal career in the field of film. Ironically enough, a few months into 2020 the world got an awful cold! lol! There are a lot of things that can be done remotely but making films is not one of them. But, I persevered and kept writing and producing short films.

To date, I have written and produced 6 short films, a music video, a mini series, and countless marketing pieces. My latest film marks my graduation to the big leagues. This was my first attempt at building a full production team, cast, and post production teams. It has been challenging and so very rewarding! I know that this is what I will do for the rest of my life!

Writers in the Shadows is my first attempt at creating a thriller in this short format. It was challenging because you have to use every moment in order to create a cycular story that will entertain an audience and keep them guessing.

I chose to use a Black woman as my antagonist because theirs has been one that has been confinded to a particular narrative. I strong believe that women make extraordinary villians and should have there moment in the moonlight!

I also made the decision to add some dark humor to the narrative. I was challening my inner Jordan Peele if you will. He is the only writer who, as he did in the award winning film "Get Out", have the audience cringing at one mometnt and then have a comedic scene to breathe aire back into the room.

This is also the first time that I built a full crew. I had a supportive, attentive, and prepared team that worked hard through post and on the shoot! But it didn't stop there. I took this project through the post production proccess with an editor, an music composer nad colorist! I am exceedingly proud of our work and can not wait to until it is availble to a broad audience.

This is also my chance for me to show what I am truly capable of as a filmmaker. This story is compelling, entertaining, and one my audiences will not soon forget. I am thrilled to finally be at this place in my life and know it is just the beginning!

I am planning the red carpet premiere for my latest short film and I need your help tio cover the cost. The night will include novelist, visuakl artist, a spoken word poet, and a panel led Q&A after the film. It's going to be a night of elegance and creative expression, but it won't happen without your help!
