Fuel the First Ever True Crime Musical Documentary
Donation protected
Hello my beloved community! As many of you know, for the last 10 years I've been researching and writing the first true crime musical documentary to date. In my original musical "Complex", we explore the real relationship between Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander and why this tumultuous relationship led to Travis's brutal murder in 2008 and Jodi's life sentence in 2013 (true crime fans may remember the televised trial). Why write something so dark? What's the point?
1. I've been teaching private music lessons for 15 years, and after the Covid shutdown in 2020, I saw many of my students robbed of community, events, graduations, musicals, prom, etc. I figured it was time to bring my musical to light to make up for some of those missed unique experiences! We will be showcasing some epic local talent and commitment, from the actors to my guitarist, to my prop master and co-writer. Thanks WDCSP for this opportunity!!!!
2. I've used the term "puppy dog brain" to describe myself. What does this mean? In the face of moving around 12 times as a child, switching schools, making yearly new friends and constantly saying goodbye, and the mental health issues that plagued my family, I've strived to shape my adult self into a pragmatic, empathetic, stoic toaster-oven (PEST is the acronym I used to describe my goals and hope to demonstrate for my kiddos). This fueled my interest in true crime, pathology, understanding extreme human behavior, and a desire to build confidence and sincere connection in my relationships. Like Travis, many of my students and I are gentle and warm, and the Jodi's of the world may break boundaries and try to take from you. By exploring Jodi and Travis's doomed and troubled relationship, I'm hoping the viewers will walk away recognizing true red flags, warmly willing to seek help and support, and treat their loved ones better than ever. I'd also like to memorialize Travis Alexander and depict him as his many friends and blog posts would have wanted - a good man and a victim since childhood. RIP buddy. (Jodi can suck it)
3. I saw a huge gap in the genre and figured I had the knowledge and know-how to create something wild and hopefully educational. We will be providing domestic abuse resources and suicide prevention information as well!
So instead of traditional in-person fundraising, I figured I would try my hand at raising some money for a few things:
•I'd like to be able to supply costumes and props that might otherwise be difficult to obtain for the participants.
• I'd like to fairly pay any additional services we may need, videography, sound, make up, whatever!!!
• I also promised to give 10% of whatever we raise to one of a few charities, I particularly enjoy the MrBallen Foundation, which uses proceeds to help victims of violent crime.
I will happily provide receipts for all donation money spent. This is my life's work, a 10 year long project, at least 3000 hours of research, composition and writing. Anything from anyone would be so beautiful and helpful! I absolutely promise to use this to further buttress, augment and elevate this project and make it even easier for the array of performers and professionals to be involved.
I'd like to thank everyone at the West Deptford Center Stage Players theatre company for their help, my music students and their interest and hard work, and to everyone who has supported me, helped me edit, given me ideas and instilled confidence. I love you so much and I will dedicate the next three months to making this premiere awesome! Let's see if we can get a film crew for a high-quality recording! Or provide everyone with additional costumes and wigs!!
The show dates are August 15/16/17th at 7pm at the West Deptford High School in NJ, tix $15 (I'll post a link when it's available).
Thank you genuinely, everyone!!!!!!
