Fuel Sam's Flight School Dream

Hello, my name is Sam Majewski. I am a 16 year old who is interested in becoming a commercial pilot. The first step to do this is to get my private pilot certificate. I have taken the Discovery flight at the MV Flight school and need 40 hours of flight instruction to complete one of the requirements towards my goal.

I am asking for financial help. I need about $15,000.

MVY Flight school is structured so that I can pay per hour for each flight, at $320 per hour. I need 40 hours of Flight time so any amount is helpful.

I’ve been working to pay for this at The Edgartown Bike Shop. I have already passed my Aviation Medical Exam, which puts me a third of the way to achieving my Private Pilot’s Certificate. I've done a couple of orientation flights with the Civil Air Patrol, which don't count as flight hours but did give me a leg up as they were free.

I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I moved to the island about 8 years ago after our house fire was a catalyst for my mother to decide to return to the home of her childhood roots. I am part of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program here on the island. I enjoy being a part of this community in particular camping at Sassafras, helping with the goats at The Native Earth Teaching Farm and engaging in Dungeon and Dragons campaigns at the Edgartown Library. The activity that I loved the most has been the time spent at the Civil Air Patrol at the Otis Air National Guard Base where retired Air Force volunteers run a program for youth that educates us on aerospace technology while learning air force drills and protocol. It was there where I first flew a cessna and developed a passion to fly.

I’ve been told quite often that I have a big heart. This has been reflected when I received a commendation for being the “Most Motivated Cadet” at my CAP squadrons annual awards ceremony. It’s a recognition for how I strive to stay positive through adversity and encourage others to do so as well. It's a bit difficult for me to boast, so my mother wanted me to quote her: “your traumas have helped you to grow deeper and more compassionate for others suffering.”

After I graduate high school, I hope to major in engineering and physics, and go on to become an astronaut. However this isn't easy, so I plan on going into commercial piloting to guarantee my future in case going to space doesn't work out. I need your help to achieve this, as I am at a crossroads. If I can get the money to pay for flight school, the entire path of my life will change for the better.
