Fuel My Dream: Help Me Buy a Wheelchair Rugby Chair

My Wheelchair Rugby Journey: Why I’m Fundraising for My Own Chair

This month marks three years since I first sat in a wheelchair rugby chair and decided to give the sport a go. Growing up with a slow degenerative condition, I never imagined I would one day rely on a wheelchair — especially when I was still walking independently throughout my 20s. Fast forward ten years, and my body finally said “no more.”

Coming to terms with needing a wheelchair at a young age was incredibly difficult. I was proud, stubborn, and honestly, heartbroken. Mentally and physically, it hit me hard.

But during the quiet of the Covid break, I finally had the space to reflect, accept my condition, and start rebuilding my outlook. That’s when I decided to try wheelchair rugby (also known as murderball) — and everything changed.
The sport didn’t just give me a family — it expanded the incredible support network I already had in my partner, my best friend and my family. With them beside me, and the rugby community behind me, I’ve felt more supported than ever.

Wheelchair rugby has given me confidence, belonging, and purpose. I went from someone who barely knew how to push a wheelchair to:

  • Vice Captain of my club, the Berkshire Banshees
  • Playing in the Championship and Premiership
  • Representing Team England at the first-ever PUKDs Home Nations 2026
  • Doing radio and TV interviews
  • Coaching younger players
  • Taking part in charity events like the Superhero Tri

Three years ago, I wouldn’t have believed any of this was possible.

Sport has shown me first-hand how powerful it can be — how it can lift someone mentally, physically, and emotionally. Wheelchair rugby didn’t just give me a hobby; it gave me back a part of myself.

Until now, I’ve been competing in a club-assigned rugby chair, generously provided by the Banshees. It’s served me well, but it’s not perfectly matched to my body or playing style. Recently, I’ve had the chance to purchase a second-hand Melrose — a chair that fits me far better and will help me take my game to the next level.
Owning my own chair feels like the right step at the right time, and I’m excited for the boost it will give me both in confidence and performance. But rugby wheelchairs are expensive — even second-hand ones can cost a significant amount.

That’s why I’m asking for your support.

How You Can Help

If my journey has resonated with you, or if you simply want to support someone pushing to achieve more in adaptive sport, I’d be incredibly grateful for your help.
Whether it’s a donation, sharing this page, or spreading the word, every single gesture makes a real difference. Together, you can help me get the equipment I need to keep progressing, keep competing, and keep inspiring others on the same path.

Thank you so much for being part of this with me. ❤️
