Fuel Infinity Charter School's Love for Reading
Donation protected
Hi! I am a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Infinity Charter School, a public charter school in Harrisburg, PA. We serve students in kindergarten through 8th grade and focus on meeting the needs of academically and intellectually gifted students. I have a passion for reading and try to instill a love of reading in our students daily.
A few years ago, I discovered book vending machines and was instantly intrigued! After some research, I found a company that specializes in creating book vending machines for schools. I reached out to the company to learn more and knew I wanted to get one for our school. I received a quote and was initially discouraged by how much it was going to cost (a little over $6,000). However, I remembered that one of the core values we teach our students at Infinity is perseverance. I thought to myself, "I can't let the cost stop me from doing this for my students. I need to persevere and do what it takes to make this happen." I decided to start with a gofundme and see how far that takes me. I am also brainstorming other ways to raise funds for this project, such as possible grants that may be available, as well as holding fundraising events through the school.
The way it works is simple! Students earn tokens to use in the vending machine. They use their tokens to "pay" for the books. The books are theirs to keep! Every student has the opportunity to earn tokens and get free books. I am hoping to support those that love to read, but also spark an interest in those that have not yet found the joy in reading.
This is something I have thought about for a few years, but now it's time to make it a reality. Please help me foster a love of learning and reading in my students and generations to come! Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
