Hello. My name is Dwight. I've been working as a software engineer for 30 years, a career that paid well but did not feed my soul. I'm more of a creative person than a logical person, and my creative side was starving.
I've loved videogames since I first played one in 1977. Two years later, my dad bought me an Apple II+, and I taught myself programming. Since then, I wanted to make games, but, after college, I started a career writing business software, instead of following my dream to make games.
A year ago, I finally decided to draw a line in the sand and commit to making and releasing a game, instead of accepting another software engineering job. I've spent that year working fulltime on my game. I've made good progress, but the game has taken much longer to write than I expected. Game development is hard!
I've now run out of money. I have tried to fund my company through angel investors, but, so far, none have agreed to invest. I'm still working on that, but I have an immediate need for cash to pay my bills.
I've been doing meal deliveries, but that pays about $10/hour, after the cost of gas is deducted. I'm also going to apply for software engineering jobs again, even though I don't want to return to that career.
So I've created this fundraiser to help me pay my bills until I either have funding for the game, or I'm making money from the game, or I've secured a software engineering job. My expenses are about $3000/month. I would really appreciate it if you can contribute anything to help me. I've never been in a position like this before. Please help. Thank you!
