Help Dorcus Lara Attend a Prestigious Program at Oxford

Many of you know Dorcus Lara. If you don't, let me give you a quick introduction. My name is Justin Williams and my family and I have been serving as teachers/mentors in Kampala, Uganda for the past 8 years. During that time, we have been fortunate to have had the time to invest in the lives of some of the world's greatest people, one of them being Dorcus.

Dorcus is in her second year at Asbury University studying a double major in kinesiology (exercise science) and psychology. She has done exceptionally well and has been on the dean's list every semester for exceptional grades. With a strong work ethic and self-determination Dorcus has vibrant life outside of her studies. When she isn’t playing center midfielder on the Asbury women’s soccer team she can be found singing in the gospel choir or serving as the Spiritual Life Assistant (chaplain) in her residential hall.

Recently, Dorcus has been invited to come and study at Oxford University through the Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) fall semester program. SCIO is a research and education institute in Oxford that provides students from around the globe with high-level academic teaching while seeking to deepen and strengthen faith and Christian understanding of the world. Through the four-month program Dorcus will study 1-on-1 with an Oxford professor researching cognitive and developmental psychology. She looks forward to delving deeper into these topics with esteemed scholars and some of the best hands-on research materials in the world. Going to Oxford will be a life-changing opportunity for her that would set her apart in the future when she begins to apply for graduate programs after completing her undergraduate studies. Dorcus dreams of supporting children with disabilities by pairing physiotherapy with psychology to help their mobility challenges as well as their emotional and mental needs.

“I believe everyone is called into ministry, but our methods may be different,” Dorcus says. “ I see career path of physiotherapy as counseling as my way of ministering to people in the midst of some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.”

We have known Dorcus since she was in 6th Grade at Heritage International School. Dorcus was a disciplined leader in every way and she has displayed this all of her life. Her father, who was a wonderful man and pastor, passed away a few years ago and her mother (again, one of the world's greatest people) has been able to send their daughters to school in some miraculous ways. Her mother works harder than any person should and I'd love to be able to help them in this way by lightening the load for the family.

I'd just like to ask you personally to help us support Dorcus in this prestigious opportunity to study in Oxford. Your generous donations would go towards covering the program’s fees plane tickets, visa fees and accommodation. Your support means the world to her, her family, and us. and the world as Dorcus is doing and will do great things. I am certain of it. Thank you so much. Justin Williams
