We are a middle school 3D printing club, with over 30 students strong and lots of student leadership! This club started last November, when a student donated their old 3D printer to me and has become the most popular club in our school. Our club is all about the joy and challenge of additive manufacturing, with professional 3D printers, older HS students, and alumni in college visiting as guest speakers and mentors. We have design contests that allow students to build design skills and be creative with STEM!
Since starting in the Fall of 2023, we've hustled to find donated and used, low-end, 3D printers that require constant maintenance. We are still keeping those older printers and keeping a focus on the technical challenge of fixing them, but our main focus has turned to Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
With donor generosity, we hope to invest in 3 Bambu Lab A1 printers, that cost about $550 each plus service warranty and filament to keep them printing for the year. These printers will be reliable and quick enough to handle the volume of printing needed for our design contests. In these contests, students need to print multiple iterations of their design to get it right! These printers will ALSO be used for our STEM class, which serves 489 students, and ensures every one of our students has access to 3D printing and design.
Finally, we love to print prizes for students for their hard work and achievement and products for our school store. 3D printing has become a significant part of our school's community!
