Fuel Artistic Dreams with The Borderlines Project
Donation protected
Hello, My Name is Matthew Villarreal, and together with fellow artists Isadora Stowe, Nathan Smith, Sharbani Das Gupta, and Laura Turon, we are raising funds to support our Borderlines Art Project. Currently our project goal is $1500 to help cover the cost of the first of 4 two-week artist residency opportunities offered to selected college students.
These residency opportunities will take place this summer at:
- The Bishop Gallery, Brooklyn, NY
- Casa Otro Gallery, Mesilla, NM
Here are some of the residency expenses the project is determined to cover:
- 2 weeks of living and studio space for each resident
- Airfare and transportation to and from the residency location
- Stipends/awards for supplies and food for the selected residents during the residency
- Mentorship stipends/awards: We believe in paying artists for their work and time. This includes hours spent mentoring emerging artists! The project is looking to provide compensation to artists who engage as mentors during the course of this project.
Why We Need Your Support:
Your contribution will help us provide selected residents with the resources they need to fully engage in their creative process. The funds raised will cover travel expenses, living costs, mentorship, access to museums/art spaces, and essential materials, ensuring that artists can focus on their work and make meaningful connections.

By supporting this project, you are investing in the future of young artists and the communities they will impact. Your generosity will help bridge cultural divides, foster empathy, and promote understanding through the power of art.
2024 BORDERLINES STUDENT ARTIST RESIDENCY opportunities are part of a larger, multifaceted exhibition and community arts project lead by Matthew Villarreal with support from Parsons School of Design, Casa Otro Gallery, The Bishop Gallery, and the Chan Family Foundation.
The larger mission of the BORDERLINES project is to foster collaboration, dialogue, and community engagement between The New School’s Parsons School of Design and artists, institutions of higher education, and community arts organizations from the El Paso-Juárez-Las Cruces Borderplex region. This project aims to create spaces for artistic expression, exploration of cultural identity, and critical reflection on interpersonal border politics, using the specific context and landscape of the Borderplex region as the starting point for a broader conversation.
Thank you for your support!
