Hi, my name is Meghan, and I’m the proud mom of five incredible children. My 11-year-old daughter, Adalynn, is terminally ill and has been medically complex since birth. She is one of the strongest people I know, fighting battles most adults couldn’t imagine, every single day.
Adalynn’s story is long and difficult. She was born with an unspecified immunodeficiency that has caused severe and recurring infections throughout her life. At just 15 months old, she underwent debridement surgery and a lymphaticectomy after a life-threatening mycobacterial infection attacked her face. By age 2, she had a G-tube placed due to facial paralysis and failure to thrive. At 3, she required decompression brain surgery and a craniotomy to treat an acquired Chiari malformation, leaving her with a portion of her skull removed.
She lives daily with neuropathy, complicated migraines, dysautonomia, chronic pain, balance issues, and suspected juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Despite these challenges, she is resilient, loving, and incredibly brave. But her care is far from simple. It requires coordination with many specialists across multiple cities.
We currently travel frequently to appointments and hospital stays in Columbus, OH (100+ miles away) and Toledo, OH (30 miles away), sometimes 6 to 7 times a month. These visits are essential to managing her pain and treating her complex conditions. Upcoming appointments include specialists in neurosurgery, rheumatology, immunology, gastroenterology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pediatric surgery. We also have upcoming appointments with the Pediatric Pain Clinic and Hypermobility Clinic.
We’re asking for help with the rising transportation and food costs that come with traveling back and forth so often. We’re also preparing for overnight stays if the Ronald McDonald House is full. Every donation will go directly toward gas, meals, and hotel stays needed to ensure Adalynn gets to her appointments.
I am a full-time college student and a stay-at-home mom to five children. Two of my other children have additional medical needs. Zac, my partner, works hard to provide for our family, but with inflation and the cost of living, these trips are becoming impossible to afford alone. It is hard for me to work when I am constantly running to mental health appointments, medical appointments, therapies, school, and more.
We’re hoping to raise funds to help cover the expenses and ease the burden on our family during an already overwhelming time. Anything you can give, even just sharing our story, means the world to us.
Thank you for standing with us and helping us get Adalynn the care she deserves.
With love and gratitude,
Meghan
Side note: If anyone needs proof of up coming appointments before donating I have no issue providing that information.
