Fuel a Screenwriter’s Dream Retreat: Rocaberti 2026

I’m Petra, if you don't know me, I'm a screenwriter based in London.

For almost a decade, I've been balancing full-time hospitality work with my passion for writing screenplays. I've been developing a portfolio, growing my craft, and steadily building a career in the film industry. Every step has been self-funded and powered by persistence.

I've worked on sets, festivals, shot my own sci-fi short film, and participated in industry development schemes like Talent Campus and the Scriptfella Program.

Now, I’m at a pivotal point in my journey, and I’m reaching out for help to take the next step.

Here's something I never thought I’d write: I’ve been accepted to the Rocaberti Writers' Retreat, a selective, career-focused program for emerging screenwriters.

Even better, I’ve been awarded a €2,500 scholarship and matched with an incredible mentor: Wendy Kram, a powerhouse producer and script consultant. She has held executive roles with Disney, Sony, and Universal.

To be honest, this kind of opportunity has always felt just out of reach, too expensive, too exclusive, too far from where I started. But for once, the door has opened. And I really want to walk through it.

Rocaberti isn’t just about writing. It's about working directly with professionals who can help turn your scripts into something real. It's about learning how to pitch, develop, and position your work in the actual industry. And for me personally, it's about stepping fully into the career I've been building toward for years.

Here's how I will use the funds:

Retreat cost: €6,495

Scholarship awarded: –€2,500

Deposit I've paid: –€1,398

Remaining cost: €2,597 (≈ £2,424)

Return travel (flight + train) from London to Spain: ≈ £400

TOTAL I’m trying to raise: £2,997

If I’m able to attend, I’ll get one-on-one guidance on my script, mentorship from someone who knows how the industry works from the inside, and the chance to pitch my project in a space where it might get traction. I'll leave with clearer next steps, stronger material, and connections that could open doors down the line, even if just by having one champion in the room.

If I can't raise the funds, I'll have to turn it down, and I don't know if this kind of chance will come around again. That's the honest bit.
