My name is Mindy Garis, sister of Merry Sieck. On Saturday, October 26th, Merry was admitted to the hospital suffering from extreme abdominal pain, nausea and joint swelling brought on by immunotherapy treatments she had been receiving for a Stage 3A Melanoma diagnosis back in March. She has remained in the hospital since that day. After weeks of tests and medications to help her manage her symptoms and pain (which she said is worse than the natural childbirth of her son, Carter) it has been discovered that there is a tear in the lining of her stomach, ulcers and weakened areas. Merry has not eaten food in almost four weeks and is receiving IV nutrients instead. This, along with kidney issues, high blood pressure and an allergic reaction to some of the medications, has made her treatment rather complicated. The team of doctors and nurses on her case had decided to take a conservative, non-surgical approach to her condition in the hopes that the tear would heal itself. However, the decision was made today that she will have surgery tomorrow, November 19. We have no way of knowing how much longer she will be in the hospital and the ceiling to the medical expenses they will be incurring.

It goes without saying that the last few weeks have been extremely stressful and at times, even scary. Merry is on a medical leave from her job as a Paraprofessional in the Huntley school district. Tim and our Mom have been tag-teaming nights and days in the hospital with Merry with the rest of us filling in where we are needed. With three young, active kids there are a lot of balls in the air.

In an effort to help ease the stress of the financial burden of losing Merry's income while she regains her health and the medical bills that will be coming their way, we are humbly asking for your support, your prayers and all of the love you can muster for the Sieck family.
