Remembering Buster

Anyone who spends time at the Andy Jackson Airpark knows Buster the dog. For years he served as unofficial greeter and Ambassador. Buster’s life on the hill didn't start out so grand, though. Gene and Nicole found Buster one day, he had managed to find his way to the landing zone, half alive, starved, abandoned with a severely broken jaw. It took months to nurse Buster back to health. Buster returned the favor, dedicating himself to the people and the place he found refuge.

Buster served as Gene’s constant companion during his recent battle with cancer and tirelessly oversaw all operations at the park. The enormous pitbull looked every bit the part of a boss. But his tough exterior was only a facade. Mr. Love, as some called him, provided hugs and wet kisses to any willing visitor, pilot, friend or stranger.

In the last week, Gene and Nicole noticed Buster seemed to be in pain and began to lose use of his legs. They took Buster to several vets but none could diagnose the problem. An MRI determined that he had sever nerve damage. Hours later Gene and Nicole got the news that no pet owner wants to hear, the damage was too severe, no matter what they did, Buster would never recover.

Friends and family have set up this fundraiser to help Gene and Nicole by offsetting the enormous costs incurred in an attempt to save Buster. 100% of the funds raised will go to paying the vet for Buster’s medical procedures.

Gene has recently been forced into retirement due to complications from cancer treatment. He is heartbroken and the mounting bills are more than he can currently manage.

Gene and Nicole are grateful for whatever financial and emotional support friends and family can give and would like to give back when they can with a post-Covid BBQ and memorial to celebrate Buster at the landing zone.

Over the years Buster greeted thousands of folks from across the globe who had come to his hill to fly. What an amazing life he lived. Buster may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
