Don Elam and Family
Donation protected
Don and his family are very sweet and are in need of some immediate assistance! Please read Don's story below.
Don was born with a birth defect, Ambiatic Band Syndrome. He had 6 operations on his foot before he was 6 weeks old. The Dr's said he would most likely never walk or if he did it would be with a bad limp. He was able to get around pretty good. When he was 5 years old he cut his foot and ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks with MRSA and received antibiotics for the 1st time.. from this point the episodes of infections took off. He would get sick and have an infection 1 to 3 times a year, always having to go to the hospital for successful antibiotic therapy. Most of his youth was spent in and out of hospitals. As a High School Junior the infection moved to the bones in his foot and he had to have another surgery to remove the infection. Since then he has had over 20 operations, metal placed in his foot to help repair the bone damage, continued infections due to foreign bodies in his foot, all of this led to his first amputation (little toe) when he was in his early 30s. He was still getting sick and dealing with the infection on a regular basis at least once a year. Multiple amputations and surgeries were ahead, his 2nd toe was removed, and the last of course was to amputate his leg just below the knee. He has lost several really good jobs because of being off work for treatment and recovery. He has only able to work a few months at a time between illnesses. The medical bills continue to come in, since July 2017 over $360,000 in bills and that number continues to grow on a daily basis. Dr.'s said he will be down for at least 6 to 9 months recovering. Once he has recovered he will get a prosthetic leg and must learn to walk again. Don is married and has 5 children. He is not able to take care of his family and it will be 1 full year before he will be released to return to work and he will have to find a new career as he will not be able to return to the same type of physical work that he has done for 25 years. At this time, their savings have been depleted and he is afraid that he and his family will loose everything because of his inability to work. He and his family pray every day that God will help them make it through this terrible time...
Anything will help, please donate what you can. It will be appreciated more than you know! Please pass this GoFundMe on and see if we can help make a difference. Thank you!
