A Note from Ed: "Back in October, I purchased a new pair of shoes for work.  After wearing them for 1 ½ weeks, I noticed a blister on my foot along the little toe.  Because of my diabetes I hadn’t felt any pain, so I didn’t know that my little toe was infected.  I went to my Dr. and got on antibiotics.

The infection got worse and worse, so he sent me to a wound-care clinic.  They could not get the infection stopped, either.  The wound-care specialist sent me to the ER.  I was admitted to the hospital on Nov. 29th.  The Dr. said the infection was so bad that they could not save the toe.  The next day, I went into surgery and the surgeon removed my little toe.  I spent 3 days in the hospital and was sent home to heal up.  After a month at home, the infection returned and began to affect my entire foot.

On Dec. 30th, I went back to the ER and was again admitted to the hospital.  The following day, I had a second surgery to remove more of the bone in my right foot.  Evidently, when the toe was removed in November, the surgeon hadn’t removed enough of the infected bone, so the infection had slowly continued to spread.  They gave me heavy doses of antibiotics during my 5 days in the hospital.

I went home on Jan. 3rd.  The Dr. said that to be sure the infection is totally gone, I need to stay off my right foot (“put no pressure on it”) for 6 weeks.   Also, I need to stay on antibiotics that go directly to my heart through an IV, so I am at home for 6 weeks.

While I’m healing, I’m using a scooter to get around the house, and I am getting a dose of antibiotics every 8 hours, for 6 weeks.  The medication is delivered to our house and Mona and I administer it 3 times per day, through a pre-measured syringe.  The good news is that my foot is looking great and healing well.  The 6 weeks of antibiotics is to ensure that the infection it totally gone.

Life sometimes comes with some speed bumps, which can slow us up, but don’t stop us.  This foot issue was definitely a BIG speed bump for me, but I will soon begin to get back up to speed.  Please continue to lift us up in prayer, as I heal and can get back to a normal lifestyle and work again.  I am excited about what 2020 will bring.  At the hospital, I actually lead one of the nurses back to Jesus right at midnight; so the first thing she did in 2020 was to get right with Jesus.  It doesn’t get any better than that!

Thanks for all your prayers and support.  Everything is easier if you have friends and family who love you and stand with you." - Ed Glaspey
