Hello everyone!
Archie Bear, our 7.5 lb Maltese, was attacked by a coyote while in our front yard. I was just 10 feet away, putting on my one year old daughter's shoes, when I heard a squeal from our Archie Bear. The squeal wasn't a normal sound, but one of fear and pain. Immediately, I scooped up my daughter and raced down our ice plant embankment. I saw a coyote carrying Archie in his mouth down toward the canyon! I screamed until my throat was raw, and, fortunately, the coyote dropped our precious doggie. I was able to pick him up, and my husband drove him to the the Emergency Pet ER. He had a huge, oozing gash down his right leg and a fractured shoulder, along with extreme shoulder muscle damage. Thankfully, Archie bear is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
However, in the injury assessment, the vets found a foreign object in his stomach. We were advised to watch for lack of appetite and vomiting. Ten days after his coyote attack, these symptoms started occurring, and he was taken in for emergency stomach surgery. Due to the large size of the foreign object, it had to be surgically removed. His stomach was opened up to remove the object, and he has stitches about 3/4 the length of his abdomen. It has been a very scary 2.5 weeks for our family, but we are grateful for the emergency services provided by Veterinary Specialty Hospital!
These surprise medical bills have taken up the majority of our savings, and, as two teachers with two young children, any donations in helping pay off his medical bills would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
Love, a very grateful family
