Our precious little warrior princess was diagnosed with Möbius Syndrome when she was born. Madalynn had to have a feeding tube placed shortly after being born because she couldn’t get enough nutrition without it. She was also missing the valve between her stomach and esophagus. This made it difficult for her to keep food down. She had a an artificial valve created called a Nissan. She ended up spending three months in the NICU due to her initial surgery going horribly wrong. Thank God, she made a full recovery and was able to come home.
Last Thursday we brought Maddie into the hospital with excessive vomiting and dehydration. The doctors found that her Nissan was no longer functioning. She had a GJ feeding tube placed and was doing great. We thought she would be able to come home in a couple days. The morning that she was supposed to discharge, she went into tachycardia. Her heart rate skyrocketed and her oxygen levels tanked. They found a pocket of air in her abdomen. The doctor suspected a perforated bowel. Maddie was rushed into emergency surgery. Due to the scar tissue and damage to her intestinal track from her previous surgery, the feeding tube created a tear in her intestinal wall. The tear was repaired and the puss, bile, and fluid was washed out of her abdominal cavity. Coming back from surgery, she was sedated and intubated. The morning after surgery, despite the strong antibiotics, Maddie went into septic shock. She’s stabilized, but not doing well. Thoughts and prayers are much appreciated for little Princess Maddie.
