Seven students from Fort Scott, Kansas qualified for the National History Day competition to be held at the University of Maryland campus June 14-18th. The three groups began their projects in September of 2014 and have invested hundreds of hours into their individual topics. The Senior Performance Group of Ben Self, Christin Guilfoyle and Mary Kerr qualified for nationals with their project on Moses Asch, Founder of Folkways Records. Ben Fischer qualified in the Senior Documentary division for his project "Three Strikes: An Unlikely Leader Leaves a Legacy". Ben's Documentary details the life and legacy of Horace King. The Junior Performance Group of Drake Garcia, Julia Kerr and Zoe Self qualified with their project on Recha Sternbuch. Recha is credited with saving the lives of more than 20,000 Jews during the Holocaust.
The participants and their teacher are responsible for all of their expenses while participating in the National History Day competition. Please consider financially supporting these dedicated students so they can attend the National History Day competition this June.
