San Francisco Native Youth Wellness

Donation protected
We are Indigenous college students who are raising money for a program that has highly benefitted us and many that we know. The Friendship House Association of American Indians in San Francisco, California facilitates physical, spiritual, emotional and mental wellness in Indigenous youth. The Friendship House promotes "healing and wellness in the American Indian community by providing a continuum of substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery services that integrate traditional American Indian healing practices and evidence-based substance abuse treatment methods." By providing the youth with a variety of alternative constructive activities, we reduce substance abuse by "promoting leadership, communication, and self-empowerment skills as well as personal-social accountability in the youth." We are committed to this cause because as Indigenous students ourselves we know how much a role model and mentor can mean to an adolescent.

This summer, the youth program intends to promote wellness through art! The hope is to bring in a new artist from the community each week, to teach expressive skills such as jewelry making, storytelling, food making, spraypainting... the list goes on... Of course, providing these opportunities comes at a high cost. We are raising funds to ensure that the youth services can continue in full capacity. Our deadline is June 15th.

For those of you who are back to support a second time: THANK YOU! Last year, your contributions allowed youth ages 9-19 to experience indigenous-led photography workshops, tours honoring the many Ohlone sites in the Bay Area, and familial connections to each other and their mentors. We believe our work counters systematic barriers that result in our communities being widely underserved, and we want to continue supporting the next generation in continuing the legacy of their ancestors. We are able to do it because of you!

If you are able to contribute monetarily, we would greatly appreciate it. 100% of funds go towards Friendship House youth services. As Indigenous peoples, we are incredibly thankful for all of the knowledge and resources that have been passed down to us from our teachers, elders, and ancestors, from our clans, communities, and nations. So, if you are unable to contribute financially, we highly value your good energy, prayers, and ideas!
