Hello! For those of you who may not know, I have spent the last three years attending the Savannah College of Art and Design to pursue a degree in Film and Television. As my amazing experience at SCAD comes to a close next May, it’s time to start thinking about the capstone project of my college career: my Senior Thesis.
As a Film and Television major, I will be endeavoring to create a 10-15 min fantasy short film called “Eldred.” I have always carried a deep passion for the fantasy genre. I find that many of the themes found within their stories hold relevance to the real world today. I will tell a romance story, a relationship surrounded by warring families and nations. Through our protagonist’s love, we’ll explore themes of race, politics, and toxic masculinity and how such vices can tear people apart.
I couldn’t be more excited to begin this project, but I can’t complete it alone. To pull off such an ambitious venture, I will need the help of many friends and family. I have already enlisted the help of many of my classmates who specialize in producing, costume, makeup, set design, and acting. SCAD has been generous enough to allow the use of their equipment and property as well. I am most excited to utilize the XR stage, a visual effect technology and circular studio comprising high-definition LED panels used in computer-generated scenery. This technology is used in other popular works like ‘The Mandalorian” and “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” in its use of such equipment. I’m proud that only in a SCAD education could I be trained in utilizing this resource.
To begin production in early February and a final release date before graduation in May, I need your help. Such a project needs funding. Money needs to be spent on costumes, production design, makeup, stunt coordinators, armorers, etc. By working with my producer, we have concluded a budget is needed of $6,000 to fund this project adequately. It is here that I sincerely ask for your contribution. Anything helps – and I’ll appreciate anything sent my way. Only through your generosity can I get this thing off the ground. I hope to instill my passion for film and cinema in this capstone project, and I hope to pass along my passion to you as well.
Thank you,
Oscar Kingsley
