Ken's "Big Boy" Hospital Bed Fund

As many of you know, our son Ken Hamilton was born with a serious brain injury called periventricular leukomalacia ("PVL"), which has led to a number of other health issues the most significant of which are spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and cortical visual impairment. However, despite these challenges Ken is a very happy and growing boy who likes music, preschool and his big brother Ross (not necessarily in that order).
Ken’s cerebral palsy means that he has minimal control over his body’s movements and thus cannot sit, stand or walk independently and he moves around using a wheelchair. We also have particular challenges in finding a safe sleeping environment for him. Ken is currently sleeping in a crib but it is getting too small and becoming unsafe for him. His occupational therapist has recommended that he ‘graduate’ to a specialized big boy hospital bed (unfortunately costing over $16,000) that is an electric hospital bed with special side-rails and padding to keep him from, literally, going bump in the night as he tends to bump his head, teeth and face on the sides of his bed or get his legs/arms stuck between the bars which wakes him (and us!) up and can be quite painful for him.
In celebration of Ken’s third birthday on May 3rd, we are appealing to you, our friends, colleagues, and family, to consider making a donation towards the purchase of Ken’s new hospital bed. There are, of course, many other wonderful and deserving causes that would benefit from your charitable giving so we understand if you are unable or unwilling to donate for any reason.
