We’re starting a farm !

Hi everyone, I’m Brittany and my boyfriend’s name is Tido. We’re so excited to start our farm (Good Farm!) next year and will accept any and all help !
Both of us have always loved gardening and we’ve also both always cared deeply about how our food was grown. Locally grown food with minimal use of sprays and chemicals has always made the most sense to us. Living in cities, we were happy with our own little garden and shopping at farmers markets, with dreams of one day having our own farm. We knew we had a lot to learn. In 2020, we decided to take a farm job in upstate New York where we stayed for three years. We were involved with almost every part of the farm there, from planting seeds in the greenhouse to selling at the farmers market, and every step in between. Last year we began looking for our own land, but after months of hunting, it seemed that leasing would be a better option for us.
We are now leasing an off grid cabin on 10 acres in Ohio. We never would’ve thought we’d be back in our home state, but here we are ! We plan to grow just about every vegetable we can as organically as we can (no sprays, chemicals, or synthetic fertilizers).
On our off grid property, refrigeration is the highest priority to figure out. What we can do largely depends on how much money we have to work with. We have lots of ideas for it !
We need a silage tarp or two to cover and kill the grass and weeds. We want our farm to be no till to keep the soil structure intact.
We need insect netting to protect susceptible crops from flying pests (I’m looking at you, cabbage moth!)
Compost, potting soil, nitrogen, seeds, market fees, a tent, row cover, landscape fabric, irrigation supplies, any other tools we’ll randomly need…. Farms are expensive and the list goes on and on. We are resourceful and creative and we’ll find a way, but if you feel inclined to help I surely won’t fight you.
Thank you so much !
