Dear family and friends,

At the beginning of 2016, my sister Arelys Moreno Mora who used to be a very dedicated teacherA began to lose weight and feel very tired. At the end of that same year, medical exams determined that she had stage 4 endometrial cancer with metastases in 6 places, including the Liver.

In December 2016, Arelys underwent a total hysterectomy procedure, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After 3 years in 2019, a 3 cm cyst appeared in the liver, which to date (October 2021) has grown to over 10 cm. Her attending physician considers that it is extremely urgent to remove the cyst and do a biopsy. Arelys is under serious risk of permanent and irreversible damage to the liver and nearby organs, since both the pancreas and the gallbladder are being displaced by the aggressive growth that this liver cyst has developed.

The cost of the surgery is $10,000 USD, plus additional expenses. Due to the economic and social crisis that Venezuela has been facing for many years, our family, like most Venezuelans, do not have the resources to face such a difficult situation. To put it in perspective, the monthly minimum wage in Venezuela is $1.39 USD. That means that to pay the $10,000 procedure, it would take just over 479 years of wages. Moreover, Arelys is currently unemployed due to her health condition.

Our family is appealing to your generosity and solidarity so that we can attempt to give Arelys the hope of returning to a normal way of life, as a citizen and a loved member of our family.

contra el Cáncer de Hígado

 

A principios de 2016, mi hermana Arelys Moreno Mora, que solía ser una profesora muy dedicada, comenzó a perder peso y a sentirse muy cansada. A finales de ese mismo año, los exámenes médicos determinaron que tenía cáncer de endometrio en estadio 4 con metástasis en 6 lugares, incluido el hígado.

En diciembre de 2016, Arelys se sometió a un procedimiento de histerectomía total, seguido de radioterapia y quimioterapia. Después de 3 años en 2019, apareció un quiste de 3 cm en el hígado, que hasta la fecha (octubre de 2021) ha crecido a más de 10 cm. Su médico tratante considera que es extremadamente urgente extirpar el quiste y hacer una biopsia. Arelys está bajo un grave riesgo de daño permanente e irreversible al hígado y a los órganos cercanos, ya que tanto el páncreas como la vesícula biliar están siendo desplazados por el crecimiento agresivo que ha desarrollado este quiste hepático.

El costo de la cirugía es de 10 000 USD, más gastos adicionales. Debido a la crisis económica y social a la que Venezuela ha estado enfrentando durante muchos años, nuestra familia, como la mayoría de los venezolanos, no tiene los recursos para enfrentar una situación tan difícil. Para ponerlo en perspectiva, el salario mínimo mensual en Venezuela es de 1,39 USD. Eso significa que para pagar el procedimiento de 10.000 dólares, se necesitarían poco más de 479 años de salarios. Además, Arelys está actualmente desempleada debido a su estado de salud.

Nuestra familia está apelando a su generosidad y solidaridad para que podamos intentar darle a Arelys la esperanza de volver a una forma de vida normal, como ciudadano y miembro querido de nuestra familia.
