Hello. My name is Janae. In January of this year I missed one mortgage payment. Usually Scotiabank will re-withdrawal within one or two days and I did have the money in the bank the next day ready to go. But this time the bank did not re-withdrawal. In fact, Scotiabank stopped withdrawals of my mortgage payments altogether. Now my story is this....my husband hurt his back at the end of January and had to quit work. We did not start getting EI payments till March. I have a disease called CRPS. I was working from home until Covid-19 hit last year and crushed my business taking more than 80% of my revenue. So in order to make ends meet I now work one or two days a week (minimum wage) at Walmart and 1 to 3 days a week at a law firm. And I am trying to limp my business along until Covid-19 passes. At first I felt that this bank error was a bit of a blessing because as broke as we are with my husband off work and the bank not withdrawing our mortgage it gave us money to pay other bills. I thought the bank would catch the error soon enough and start withdrawals again. Someone would call us or we would receive a letter in the mail or so on. It is now April and we have not received one phone call or letter or email from Scotiabank. On April 16th a man showed up with a foreclosure notice. What a surprise considering we had not received anything in lieu of contact from the bank. I have now been in contact with Scotiabanks lawyer and as of today we have 10 days to pay what is owing plus legal fees or we lose our house. All this with no notice. Please help us. I feel like we have to fight the bank. But with 10 days and Aoril 30th looming fast I can't do this on my own.
