Fruta Hopkins of Concord NC was admitted to a hospital in Hickory NC on December 18th. It's been a long and trying 4 days so far for the family. As of now there are no answers on diagnosis as she has such a rare and complicated case.
On the afternoon of the 18th Fruta had 2 seizures at her daughters house which prompted Fruta to be transported by EMS to the local hospital. During her admission, Frutas lab work has came back with several critical levels, that have continued to climb in the negative direction. She has been a patient on the medical floor, IMCU and currently is a patient in CCU the critical care unit. She has several speciality doctors in her case including critical care doctors and nurses, respiratory, neurology, gastroenterology and hositalists. Fruta has had multiple testing done, including but not limited to MRIs, several CTs, several xrays, EEG and a bronchoscopy.
At this point, the doctors are all unsure as to why she has continued so be so critical. We do know that her liver, colon, intestines, brain and lungs aren't functioning correctly. Several studies have been done, and no source of infection has been identified. There are no clear reasonings as to what has lead her to the current situation.
Fruta was sedated and intubated the early morning of the 22nd. Her body was so tired of fighting and beginning to completely shut down. The family is doing all they can to try and make her comfortable while allowing her body to rest while she is receiving nutrients, medications and allowing the machines to help her breath. As of right now, it's in the Lords hands to help find the answers and give the family the hope they need.
We are asking everyone to help ease the burdens of finances. Her daughter Angel has been unable to work as she has been bedside with her mother since the very beginning. Fruta has no medical insurance and has been unable to work since the covid pandemic. The family has Christmas plans on hold at the moment in hopes of being able to celebrate the holiday as a completed family. Their world was turned upside down since the 18th. They are living each day with prayers and positive hope for a good outcome.
Most of the family lives 1.5 hours away from the hospital that Fruta is a patient at. Angel is a current registered nurse and is the person who has been giving updates on her mother's condition all while educating the family on the medical knowledge of the situation and being the main contact and decision making person.
This holiday season is something that should be bringing joy and happiness to everyone, but with the Hopkins family, it is proving to be a scary and uncertain time.
Fruta is loved by so many and has so many beautiful memories with many people. We hope to allow God to heal her and allow her to continue to make many more of those memories.
If you could donate we all know it would help to ease the burden of the upcoming mountain of hospital bills and help the family meet their financial responsibilities while their life is on hold so that they can care and be supportive for their mother, wife and friend. Each donation is a sacrifice to make, yet it will be appreciated more than you could imagine. Thank you for your time, prayers and donations from the bottom of their hearts. Im sure they have been feeling loved by so many of you. It does not go unnoticed. God bless and Merry Christmas to all. She passed today surrounded by family. Thank you for your support.
