- A
Blessings Family It’s been a year since I did the first #fruitsfortheyouts. An insentive to raise money to buy fruits and books for children in the local community. The idea stemmed when traveling around Jamaica and I came to realise the majority of local people on the island especially the children eat so badly. The islands amazing natural produce (mostly exported) is totally overshadowed by supermarkets packed with imported processed junkfood, which is far more affordable and available than the islands own fruits and vegetables. This blew my mind because as beautiful as Jamaica is its still a struggle 3rd world country and
for me it’s richest asset is its natural food resource, yet it’s being completely overlooked! I also noticed the children dont have any access to decent educational books or any books with characters that represent them.

After receiving heart warming amount of donations I decided to work with a local primary school in Hope Bay, Portland. We threw a big fruit party with 200 children from the school and got them 100 brand new books that I personally selected based on representation and education. We also managed to buy one the children new reading glasses with the money left over - he was SO greatful and happy!

Whilst working with the school I was inspired to do more. Most schools in Jamaica have minimum support from the government so they really rely on people like us to help them get resources to improve the children’s education, health and safety. The head teacher Mrs Taylor who has been at the school for 40 years said she always wanted a library and agriculture farm for the children. So we’re going help them build it!

We need to raise £7k to totally refurbish an old run down classroom (one one in these pictures) into a modern and comfortable library / book club aswell as transform their overgrown field into a fruit and vegetable farm with all the relevant equipment and tools for the students of Hope Bay primary school and the children within the Hope Bay community to benefit from.

The mission is to create a space that will nurture and inspire the children to learn, create and achieve more in school and in life. While becoming more self sufficient and healthier with integrating agriculture into the daily curriculum.

If like me you believe these children need this then let’s make it happen together. Please donate whatever you’ve can and allow others the join the mission by sharing with your people as much as possible. Tell a friend to tell a friend!

Give thanks for reading
