FRUGALDOM PROJECT

Along the way to developing Frugaldom into a sustainable 'microholding' (smaller than a smallholding) with its own wildlfe conservation areas, new woodlands, heritage orchard, quiet corners and an environmental art project, we have also become home to several ponies that found themselves in need of rescuing or rehoming.

Our project operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise, generating income from our followers and subscribers through various sponsorships, open days and sales of art and hand crafted items.  We had planned several 'muddy wellies' weekends and 'equine rambling' excursions throughout 2020 - all now on hold indefinitely.

Like many others throughout the UK, we have had to close our doors to visitors, say no to volunteers and cancel our Frugal Breaks holidaymakers owing to the Coronavirus / Covid-19 pandemic.

The progress of the animals at Frugaldom is what many people follow, with our elderly readers deriving great pleasure from seeing what's happening here, even although they can no longer visit. With 4 orphaned foals joining us in October 2019, we have been working extremely hard trying to keep everything ticking over with all the livestock fed while income has plummetted.

We will survive!

I am a frugal living expert when it comes to running a household on a tight budget but here at Frugaldom, we cannot grow and make our own hay, haylage, straw, grain, feed supplements or essential animal health products. For this reason, I am setting up the funding page and will be extremely grateful for any and all help received. Everything raised will help towards looking after the ponies.

Of the 10 ponies here, 4 are foals that were orphaned at just a few weeks old. We eventually hope to find each of them sponsors to help cover their costs but as you can imagine, these costs mount up fast. With all 4 of these foals being colts, they will also need to be gelded - possibly another £1,000 needed for that. There is also routine veterinary care, hoof care and basic training to consider, plus all the land, shelter and fencing maintenance required in order to ensue their safety.

On average, we expect to spend around £10,000 each year on animal care and welfare so if you can help support Frugaldom in any way, I will be extremely grateful. We do offer a subscription service for members to receive regular updates via our Friends of Frugaldom group, plus we invite sponsorships for ponies, posts, gates, gardens and smaller projects within Frugaldom. You can dedicate a tree, tag a post, volunteer (when restrictions have been lifted) or fundraise to help feed the animals and wildlife. We also offer a range of hand crafted items, plants and artwork for sale, some of which can be bought online.

We normally work within a very strict budget, employing 'reduce, reuse, recycle' and 'make do and mend' methods, stretching every penny as far as possible, sharing how we do it with our followers. This frugal, moneysaving ethos is applied to almost everything we do - we are here to help support people and ponies.

Frugaldom is privately funded and run vluntarily with no grants, loans or development funding. We are not a charity, we are more of a social enterprise - a project that anyone can share under normal circumstances, so we truly appreciate every bit of help possible from our readers, followers and supporters.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Frugaldom.
