Hi my name is Rachel Leaptrott, I am Frue McAvoy‘s fiancé and domestic partner. Saturday, December 2 at 9:20 PM Frue suffered multiple strokes at home. He was transferred immediately to Mayo clinic where it was identified he had a blood clot in his vertebral artery on the back of his neck. He underwent an emergency procedure called a thrombectomy to release the clot to the brain. We have been in the Mayo Clinic NSICU, and he has been sedated and on a ventilator since we got here.

The MRI results show that he has brain damage to his cerebellum and his brain stem. Frue knows who he is and he knows where he is and what happened. The main part of the brain that was impacted are his motor skills and his ability to control his secretions, or swallowing to protect his airway.

Friday, December 8 he had 2 more procedures one for a G-tube, and the other was a tracheostomy.

Has an incredibly long road ahead of recovery, but he is a fighter. He is looking at at a minimum of three months at an inpatient rehabilitation center to regain his strength, and hopefully have the trach and G-tube removed.

I am asking for help as his partner to make sure that the household and his medical bills are covered, out-of-pocket rehabilitation costs, transportation costs via ambulance from hospital to the rehabilitation center and anything that comes in between. There are so many unknowns, at this point all we can do is take it day by day. Thank you all so much for your prayers, we hear them keep them coming.
