Frostie's Vet Bills

Donation protected
Update: he's doing a lot better and recovering well. We got lucky with him deciding to start eating again. Thank you very much for all the support!

This is my handsome boy, Frostie. He's an 8 year old Maine Coon. Usually he is very affectionate and constantly craves attention. Unfortunately, his health hasn't been the greatest for the last 2 years or so. He's been diagnosed with pancreatitis and he is going through a very rough time.

Since last August, his vet care has been about £5000. I find myself in the rather embarrassing position of asking for help. I am attending University and had paid towards completing my studies before Frostie suddenly got worse just before the bank holiday weekend. He needs treatment that I cannot afford. My father has already exhausted his savings assisting me.

Frostie's flare-ups usually start with throwing up and loss of appetite. He saw a vet on Friday (after 24hr of not eating or drinking) and was given injections for pain and nausea (that had previously worked). He did not improve and developed a fever, so on Saturday he was admitted for a drip for hydration as well as blood tests. The tests confirmed a bad case of pancreatitis and a liver infection.

Overnight his fever came down and they managed to get his liver to function properly again, but he was still not eating. We decided to bring him home on Sunday because during a similar episode, he didn't eat at the vet but ate at home - but also because we could not afford the vet care over the bank holiday weekend. It was also the best for his comfort, as he gets very anxious and uncomfortable during his stay (including urinating himself). Despite being more comfortable, he has still only eaten a tablespoon of food in over 24hrs while being home and is only taking liquids through a syringe into his mouth. He purrs and kneads, but he is not recovering as well as we hoped.

As we are concerned for his wellbeing, at the time of writing this we are faced with another emergency vet bill of up to £2000. How his pancreatitis will affect him in the short- and long-term is unknown and we are currently focusing on his immediate health concerns. We hope we can afford whatever treatment he may need.

When it comes to our animals, they are our family - and he is definitely my child. If there is anything you are able to spare towards helping his recovery, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you for reading Frostie's story.
