FrootFly: Eating With Intent and Purpose

BLACK FARMERS MAKE UP LESS THAN 2 PERCENT OF ALL U.S. FARMERS. New reports find that racial discrimination within USDA programs is responsible for this decline. It is shown that even within the Black communities, women are obtusely discriminated against in comparison to Black men, however there are even further marginalized sub-groups. These sub-groups include elders, children, the disabled and Trans people.
There is an even less represented number of these marginalized groups found within farming and fruit distribution markets. These communities often have no control of the quality and freshness of their produce and oftentimes this leads to pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, asthma and various cancers. In addition, COVID-19 has greatly devastated and further marginalized these communities.

FrootFly provides Nutrition, Wellness & Knowledge through a variety of organically grown, high-quality Tropical Fruit.
Our goal as Fruit Advocates is to collectively Increase access to high-quality, pesticide-free fruit in urban areas, Build ancestral and cultural connection through fruit and Create Fruit-Equity for marginalized communities.

FrootFly is a humble business created by 2 Fruit Enthusiasts, a Black Trans woman & a Black Trans man, who were interested in reclaiming their time and presence in an industry dominated by Fruit colonizers. FrootFly was founded to create a fresh fruit distribution resource for: BIPOC, youth and families, older adults and the elderly, folks with disabilities, individuals with immune deficiencies and those open to embracing and honoring the natural goodness the Earth naturally provides.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will go directly towards nationwide shipping and distribution, marketing, inventory, essential supplies and the employment of those most marginalized. Extra proceeds will go towards our long-term goal of land ownership and the creation of Black-owned agricultural education platforms and spaces, to further our collective equity and overall liberation.
