November 23rd is a day our family will never forget. We got a call from my brother-in-law stating that he had to rush Angie TeSlaa, my sister, to the Emergency Room due to being unresponsive with a 50% ox reading. She was unable to communicate, stand on her own, and went limp when trying to get her out of bed. Once she arrived at the hospital and was being cared for, we received the devastating call that she had no knowledge of what was happening around her and she had experienced a fever over 102 for a few days. The rapid test came back positive for Covid-19 while she was still fighting for oxygen while being administered the maximum amount.
Living up in high elevation, she had to be air lifted to Reno, NV where she could be treated appropriately. This was a 136 mile, one way flight, to a medical center where she has to stay for a few days for monitoring. They have treated her with antibiotics and steroids, and managed to get her oxygen levels corrected along with bettering her other stats.
As of 5pm PDT she was able to fully communicate, and has no recollection of the day leading up to the point of being taken by the air ambulance.
I am hoping to raise enough money to help cover the costs of her emergency transportation along with her medical costs. She has been working in the hospital as a clinical assistant in a pediatric office as well as a greeter/door check-in to ensure those who enter are screened appropriately. Her husband is also an LVN who will now have to self-quarantine, and will not be able to work for the next two weeks. Angie has been a vital part of her community with being a CERT member, dispatcher for the fire department, as well as an EMT. We hope that she is able to make a quick recovery from this terrible illness so that we can see her cheerful smile again.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
*11/24/2020 Update* Angie was moved to the Covid Unit last night, which we cannot say much about. They have converted the parking garage into an open area treatment facility, so we are hoping she can come home soon! She has a spirometer that she must get up to 1500, and she is at 500-750 atm. "She has to remain in certain positions to keep her oxygen high, due to her lungs not being able to fill appropriately. She is also stuck without her regular clothes, and unable to take a shower"- Jay
.. She also has to sleep on her back, because when she tries to sleep on her side her oxygen levels bottom out. We will keep you posted on her progress!
